| Congress investigating NFL, Patriots According to ESPN, Senator Arlen Specter wants Congress to get involved with the Patriots video taping scandal - specifically, the NFL's handling of it. He wants to call commissioner Roger Goodell before the Judiciary Committee to have him explain just why he destroyed the evidence in this case (i.e. the videotapes). Congress getting involved in yet another sport. This should be fun, eh?

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots woah woah woah huh?! I can understand Congress wanting to get involved in pro sports due to the abuse of drugs...but why in the world would/should they be interested in the Patriots cheating scandal? This makes NO sense. |

Must we really waste the tax payers money in this fashion? Some freakin stewarts of our funds they are being...why not just hand the freakin commissioner's role in each sports to the freakin Legislative branch while you are at it. |
| ||||
| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots It's not a waste of tax payers' money (about the drug issue...not this Pats issue)...Congress has tons of committees whose job it is to look at some of the most minute parts of our society. I think the abuse/purchasing/sale of drugs without just medical cause is an issue that should be looked at. Hopefully they can become more educated on the subject, along with us. |

Oh please Empire, spare me, do you realize the cost of some of these "investigations?"...remember Bill Clinton and the whole Lewinski scandal?...I think the investigation had a price tag of $40 mil (someone correct me if I am wrong on the amount) etc... And just because Congress has a bunch of committees does not mean that tax payer money is not wasted left and right, nor does it mean that they should stick their nose into every aspect of the public sector...to include sports...actually, especially sports... That you are fine with it, hey, its a free nation, back whatever view you want...but I personally rather see the money go elsewhere so spare me lecture on Congressional committees...

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots On a side note: Spector worked on the Warren Commision that investigated the Kennedy Assasination...which really was not the best conducted investigation on the planet...what makes him think he is qualified to handle an NFL investigation? |
| ||||
| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots Quote:
I think you jumped the track a bit here as to what Empire is saying. He wasnt talking about the Kennedy investigation or the Lewinski scandal. He was talking about Congressional investigations into matters of society like drugs. Not agreeing or disagreeing mind you. But then again, if the sports professions cant monitor themselves, maybe someone else should. This comes from your total dislike of the government sticking their nose into anything. Sometimes its a good thing goth, lots and lots of times its not. |

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots Quote:
Okay, once more for you...If Empire wants to spend his tax money that way...and if you want to spend your tax money that way, more power to you...I think it's a waste of my freakin tax money. ...and pray tell, where did I jump off track?...It is clearly a political post involving Congressional committees, sports and Senator Spector...my answer was within the bounds of the post...that you do not agree, or do not like it, does not make it "inappropriate." As for "my total dislike for government sticking their nose into anything" that is a big, big. big assumption on your part as you do not know my political views on but a handful of subjects...but if you want to make that assumption based in what little you know of me, knock yourself out...by all means tell me what else I believe in... Now, if you want to talk about government sticking their Congressional nose into sports, to include drug issue in sports...then yes, I believe that in a capitalist society, its not their freakin place. I believe a Government's place is to create a level playing field for sports...not to go pry into how a private enterprise is run at such a micro level...in other words, do you really, really, really think that they should come into the private sector and say, "make sure that a companies drug policy is effective and that all empoyees" pee in a cup?"...spare me the Big Brother view please...been there, seen that, and it was not pretty. ...and now, now you can clearly state that I am engaging in a lecture. |

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots Quote:
I didnt say it was inappropriate, what I said was I wasnt quite sure you and Empire were discussing quite the same things. If you say you are, I will take your word for it. I did say I did not agree, or disagree. Am I right about the second red underline?? I didnt say the government should do it, I said if the sports sector couldnt monitor themselves, maybe someone else should do it. That said, I dont think they have been working at monitoring it very hard up to now. Public outcry may be enough to get them motivated. |

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots I think it's kinda stupid that they want to get involved. Whether it was a cheating issue or not and how to handle it should be up to the NFL, not Congress. Wish someone could do an investigation into how Congress does things. |
| ||||
| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots Good point there but Congress investigates themselves. But of course it should be up to the NFL. Although a lot of people have complained about how they have handled it up to this point. |

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots Quote:
oh, please... ...and while we are on the subject, these Congressman on these committees investigating sports...shouldn't they at least know what the heck they are talking about?...cause the baseball one was a Congressional Embarrassment...couldn't get the comish's name right, couldn't get the players name right...couldn't get the stats right...and yet, they are gonna help us fix it?...right... But hey, if you look like you are doing work, while the TV camera is rolling...chances are you will be remembered next election. and where were you during the great Tootoo-Inuit debate yesterday. And no, you are not right on your second assumption, I tend to have a Hamiltonian view of government, I do believe in a strong Federal government, and I do believe the elite will always rule over an ignorant mob regardless of type of government...and under those views, there are plenty of areas where I think government should be sticking their nose in...so wrong assumption... |

| Re: Congress investigating NFL, Patriots Quote:
TOOtoo whatever, have no idea what you are talking about so give me a clue I beg your pardon for the wrong assumption. Although I really object to the term ignorant mob. |
