Does my husband REALLY need this ridiculous TV?

OK so help me out here...

We're having a Super Bowl Party and inviting about 20 people. We both want to get a new TV and went to Costco to look at their Vizios since we heard they were good.

I wanted to get the 42" Vizio which is only $1,050 but HE is convinced that we MUST GET the 60" plasma Vizio which is $2,000. I get it that it's a very good deal for a big plasma, but I still thinks it's pretty gratuitous.

Any suggestions on how I can bring him to his senses? Or should I just suck it up and let him get the giant TV? It is a good deal... but even so we'd still be spending more than I'd intended!

Well, I'm probably in the minority here, but... I'm on your side. 42" is plenty big, and it's just about half the price.

Well... tough call. The 42 is damn good. Just work on him and maybe he'll see the light.

They sure do. Just go to Yahoo or Google and run a search for one. They have them at Pricegrabber, eBay, Circuit City and others.

Re: Does my husband REALLY need this ridiculous TV?

Yeah, a compromise could be a good idea. I think that the savings was so much more on the 60" Vizio though...

It MIGHT look excessive in our living room but I guess we would have the biggest TV of all our friends and of course that's what my husband strives for in life and I want to have him achieve that dream.

HAHAA kidding... hope you didn't think I was serious there. But yeah I think it might just be too good of a deal to pass up. We'll look into the 50-52 inchers as well.

Thanks for the insight...

Re: Does my husband REALLY need this ridiculous TV?

I would look into how big a room you need for the larger TV. There is a chart somewhere that tells you how far back you need to be for optimal viewing. If you are too close, a larger TV can be a burden!

I am gonna get a 42" one of these years, but I need some other things first!

That's a good point. I had a friend who had a 70" in his apartment. WAY too big for his living room. It was really uncomfortable to watch it. I hate when people do that. Comfort should be more important than trying to impress. I think our living room might be too small for a 60" but like you said, I'll have to find that chart and measure the distance.

Re: Does my husband REALLY need this ridiculous TV?

The size of your living room and the TV is an excellent point, but if the room is big enough, and your husband has his heart set on the 60", and you decide to get the 42" or compromise, he'll forever be sitting there wondering and lamenting what it would be like to have the 60", especially if you could afford it and could have bought it. So I say go for that one. Then we'll all come over for a GoTeamsGo Super Bowl party
