| Re: Super Bowl XLII Match-Ups I will basically look at in the same way Simon is. Not because he and I are the lone Pat's fans but because of the numbers. What I will say is that in the past 7-8 games the Pat's defense seems weak in the first half. If that can be exploited to the point where a wide lead is taken by the Giant's then that could spell trouble. Maroney had a massive game against SD and if he does that again it will be detrimental to the Giant's. Manning has yet to prove he is a long term great QB. He may well be on his way but the entire year doesn't scream it. The weather, obviously, will not be a factor. Time off could be, but they both have to deal with it. I'd like to see the Pat's do it just to set the record books on end. If not then I move onto the Celtics who are within striking range of beating the Bulls record.

| Re: Super Bowl XLII Match-Ups let's see.... Coaches: New England.....I understand Bellichick is a football god but it's not like Coughlin is a joke of a coach. He's outcoached both Wade Phillips and Mike McCarthy. So with all the history, this is clear but it's not such a HUGE difference. QB: New England.....Duh, I'm not dumb enough to NOT think Tom Brady has the HUGE advantage over Eli. Brady has been here before and he's never lost a Super Bowl. Eli is the only QB in the 2008 playoffs to not have a single turnover. RB: New York.....the effectiveness of the new thunder and lightning is great. Brandon Jacobs is the big bruising back. Remember the first play from scrimmage? Jacobs literally ran over Charles Woodson. Sets a tone. Ahmad Bradshaw is a great change of pace back. The Patriots had less than 50 rushing yards back in Week 17. The Giants rush defense is damn good, just ask Ryan Grant (of course GB never tried to establish the run). WR: New England...although this is close as well. But when you have Randy Moss and a very good Wes Welker, and a decent Stallworth they have plenty of weapons. The Giants have Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, Steve Smith and David Tyree at the WR spot. Plaxico is coming off the game of his life. TE: New England...Ben Watson is a starter and a damn good pass catching TE. The Giants' Kevin Boss has proven to be a fine pass catching TE as well. I'll give NE the edge since Watson has more experience and is probably a better run blocker (I don't know if he is). OL: PUSH....New England's Oline always seems to give Brady enough time to find the open receiver. Likewise, the Giants Oline may not be an elite unit but they are right up there. They block for the run like no other unit. -- DL: New York....gotta go with the great pass rushing and run defensive unit of the GMen here. Strahan, Umenyiora (pro bowler), Justin Tuck, Fred Robbins and Jay Alford (just don't have him snap the ball LB: I'm not sure.... DB: New England. Now everyone knows the Giants secondary was ravaged by injuries, but they played the Packers great. The only HUGE play they allowed was the Driver TD when Webster fell down after the bump and run without any safety help. They will have 2 weeks to get healthy. New England though has some great corners and of course Rodney 'Dirty' Harrison. Special Teams: I think it's much more of a push...BUT...I will give the edge to New England based on the kicker. Gostkowski is much more reliable than Tynes. The Punters, I'd give Jeff Feagles the edge. With returns, Dominik Hixon and RW McQuarters (just don't drop the damn ball!) have been great for the Giants. |
