Great news for fans of inane football commentary, particularly on Monday nights: according to
Newsday's Neil Best,
Tony Kornheiser will likely be back for season three of Monday Night Football.
Kornheiser said last Sunday he has "no reason to believe I'm not" returning next season. ... As always, Kornheiser cautioned that his opinion could change tomorrow, or the next day. "It's very easy to make a commitment in February or March for something you don't have to do 'til August," he said of his intentions to return.
To Kornheiser's credit, he was much improved last season after what can kindly be described as a train wreck in 2006. I'm willing to blame
Joe Theismann for much of that (its easier). And after
ESPN replaced Theismann with
Ron Jaworski, Kornheiser seemed to find his niche: observations from the perspective of a sometimes buffoonish sports fan with no real understanding of football. Hey, whatever works.
