Essentially the only member of the '72 Dolphins who refused to admit the Patriots' greatness was the irritable Morris, a long-time ambassador of the only team in NFL history to run the table.
"My feeling about it is as consistent as it has been all year," Morris said. "It doesn't matter to me whether or not they win them all because it doesn't affect anything we've done."
Morris, a 1,000-yard rusher and one of the most vocal supporters of Miami's undefeated team, has attempted to minimize New England's success throughout the season.
Sunday was no different, as Morris claimed that the Patriots cannot top - only match - the '72 Dolphins' accomplishments.
"When all the dust clears, the best they can do is to stand beside us, and in the end, that's not a bad thing," Morris said. "I will welcome them to the neighborhood with my Mr. Rogers sweater on, but first they have to get to the neighborhood."

No, IF they win the Super Bowl, then they surpass them. The whole thing in the NFL, is get more to beat the record--yards, td's, completion, etc. In this case, more games in the regular season + Super Bowl=Best team

I know. He was on the radio yesterday saying they will be tied. You have to go by win % not by total wins. He kept saying they were equals. I wish somebody would shut those guys up, pour their champaign down the toilet. They are no longer the only ones.

Technically the Dolphins weren't the only ones to go undefeated in the regualr season, they are the only ones to run the table and win the Superbowl. I think the Bears went undefeated twice, according to the stats they showed durin Saturdays game.

It's not surprising that members of the '72 Dolphins are upset. I'd be upset too if I knew that my achievement could soon become a footnote to history instead of history itself!

There's a great article on this featuring the "other" undefeated teams - the 1948 Cleveland Browns and the 1934 & 1942 Chicago Bears - over at the Pro Football Hall of Fame website. The Browns feat came in the AAFC, so it isn't officially recognized by the NFL. Both Bears teams, meanwhile, went undefeated into the championship game, but lost there. To date, though, the Dolphins are the only team to go unbeaten, regular season and playoffs, as an NFL squad.
