Starting qb's

On NFL Access last night, it was mentioned that so far this year there have been 49 different starting quarterbacks in the league. Last year, there were 50 all year.
Peyton Manning said if he's getting hit a lot, its the quarterback's fault. He has to get rid of the ball, and not hang on to it.
What do you think?????????

Re: Starting qb's

It's true that the QB is partially at fault. He needs a quick release, but the line has to buy him SOME time to survey the field. Also, let's remember not all of these QB changes have been injury related - Chicago, the Jets, the Raiders, etc. have used multiple QBs just because one or both have been ineffective.

Cool Re: Starting qb's

I think the players keep getting bigger and stronger so when a 285 pound defensive lineman rolls of your ankle, how do you not get hurt? Sometime these QB's get hit so hard, it's like getting hit by a car.

That's true. But also, as the offensive linemen seem to be getting bigger, the defensive linemen are getting smaller and faster. An average offensive linemen weighs over 300 lbs with some DE's and DB's weighing in at 280 to 285. That makes a difference.

Yeah, I mean in the 1970's Bob Lilly was an All-Pro DT playing at 245 lbs!...DB's were in the 180 range. Now you have a hybride like Roy Williams come in hit you, and it ain't the same....Force = Mass x Acceleration...they are bigger and accelerate faster, so do the math...

Re: Starting qb's

look at all the quarterback changes since 1990 for every team....(i'm looking for all the actual numbers) but look at the packers and favre..... Favre has been the only qb for that team for 16 years now.... pretty remarkable if you ask me

Goth do you think that's why there are so many injuries in the NFL? Perhaps more than in years past? Because players are simply bigger and faster?

I think it has a lot to do with it.
Do you think they still prepare and work out as hard? I know some of those guys on the earlier Cowboys teams used to party pretty hard the night before and were still on the field the next day. I dont know how they did it.

Re: Starting qb's

Sad thing is there are maybe 30 quality QBs in the sport (even that's probably a stretch). The rest are filler.
