| rookies and their holdouts I have been a fan of sports for all of my life. I had dreams of one day playing professional baseball, and seeing my name up on the scoreboard lights.. Yet as I get older, I am having a hard time understanding all of these rookie holdouts... I watch the draft for football and basketball every year, and I get just as excited today when the celtics, and patriots name comes up.. yet I cant understand why a rookie can hold out for guarrenteed money in a rookie contract.. I dont know, but how can you demand so much money, when you have never worked for the organization? Example.. Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn.. Russell is wanting to get $30 million dollars in guarrenteed money.. They guy has never taken an NFL snap.. Yes, he was drafted #1.. and? Go out and earn your money.. prove that you are worth what you are asking for.. When I go for a job interview, if I were to tell the company I was interviewing with, I need $85,000, they would laugh me out of the building and go to the next interview. As for Brady Quinn.. He is wanting money that would normally go to a top 10 pick.. would someone please let brady know that he was drafted #22 by the browns.. And yes, there were, what? 20 other picks that went before him? yeah, that means you get #22 money. You are not a savior to the browns franchise. You are a rookie quarterback. Get over yourself. |

| Re: rookies and their holdouts It's just the agents protecting the players. Remember, no money is guaranteed in the NFL except that bonus guaranteed money. These rooks won't become free-agents for five, six years. You never know what will happen. As far as Quinn, he expected to go higher and was the 2nd (I think) QB taken, so he wants to get paid like it. Should he, maybe, maybe not. It's all a tussle between who gets their way. Eventually they will sign and come into camp. Then they have to deal with getting the respect of their new teammates. |
