NFL Expansion 2010: LA, Orlando, San Antonio, Portland

The Florida Citrus Bowl was built in 1936 and hasn’t been significantly renovated since 1989. Plans call for transforming the rusting 70-year-old Citrus Bowl by replacing its concrete bench-style bleachers with individual seats and adding 4,000 upscale club seats, 80 luxury boxes, and new bathrooms, concession stands, and events center. Capacity over 75,ooo.

Orlando, Citrus Bowl has been to the home to XFL Rage, USFL Renegades, World Football League Thunder all very well attended games. Now Orlando is more than Disney, the population is more than 2 million and expected to reach 5 million in the next 10 years. Orlando is ranked in the top 5 in job growth. Orlando has plans to renovate the Citrus Bowl to a state of the art stadium (projecthometown.com).

I predict that the Orlando Pythons, Los Angeles Stars, San Antonio Deperados, Portland Storm will be the next NFL expansion teams.

The money is coming from fundraising (Disney, etc), tourist taxes, city, and tax refunds to the city. See Project Hometown: For Everyone Who Calls Centeral Florida Home for details.

I disagree. The league is too watered down as is. More teams would just further dilute the talent pool.

Then you ain't been paying attention Lefty my man...all I see is Orlando in a dozen posts...If I had to take a wild guess, I would guess he is doing some sort of Marketing campaign aimed at gauging reactions for an Orlando based franchised.

The guy has not posted once where he has changed his cadence...you have posts on Tampa franchises to Orlando. On Billy Donovan to Orlando. The NHL to Orlando. The NFL to Orlando....all from an L.A. location...hmmm...

What would you call it if not some sort of marketing effort?

Having said that...5 million by 2015?...we are growing fast...but not that fast...you are talking about my backyard on and off since 1978. I should know if we are capble of supporting anything....and sadly we are not.

I would actually love to see more teams, but I doubt that Florida would get another team. Aren't they having trouble supporting the ones they have now?

Well, for the sake of argument... what cities actually deserve to get an NFL franchise. No one say Los Angeles, please.

See, now that's a good answer. Cities like that, like Tuscaloosa, maybe somewhere around Norman, Oklahoma... not the world's biggiest cities, but filled with football die-hards. Those are the places I'd like to see rewarded.

Yep. You can even make a Tri-City team and schedule 2-3 home games at each city. You would get enough fan interest for that I would think...

I was wondering where all the interest in Orlando was coming from. Guess I know now. This all seems weird to me. You learn something everyday.
