LONDON -- The first regular season NFL game outside North America is shaping up as a hot ticket.


The first 40,000 tickets for the Oct. 28 game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants at the new Wembley Stadium sold in 90 minutes Wednesday.


"The speed in which such a large number of tickets were snapped up ... demonstrates the great excitement and appetite for the game in this country," said Alistair Kirkwood, managing director of NFL UK. "We know that the last few tickets available in this first batch will be gone very soon."

wonder if the hooligans will show up and riot ? ...... i hope they have provisions in place to protect the players

You know, in all seriousness... 40k tickets sold in 90 minutes is a lot better than I thought the London game would do. Maybe the game is more internationally popular than some of us (myself included) gave it credit for.

Naw, or you would have NFL 2nd tier players chewing at the bit to put in time in Euro football...Novelty at best...

oh yes simon i am going, got my tickets already, cant wait its going to be a hell of an exprience...i hope but i dont expect to see to many hooligans or trouble at the game, i dont think the british fans are that 'die hard' about the sport to riot over it

ha ha, yeah ill definatl try, i got the most expensive tickets so hopefully that means ill be behind one of the teams. but i think your right it would be difficult to get another game over here if the idiots that normally ruin soccer games decide to try and ruin this one, but i dont think we will have problems like that

You guys have an NFL Europe team, right?

I know there used to be the London Monarchs, and I don't ever recall hearing about trouble with their fans. It should be fine.

yeah we did have the Monarchs for a while at the first real height of popularity for football but that went away when the team did, the attention was turned to the Scottish Claymores and once again popularity faded when they withdrew the team from NFL Europa and now all the teams are based on 'mainland' Europe and this season the sports channels in the UK aren't even showing the games like they did in the past. i dont recall there ever being trouble, to be honest it was more like we were so privilaged to be so close to the game for a while that we didnt wanna ruin it by acting stupid and causing riots, which leads me to assume no one would be stupid enough to risk never being able to see a live NFL game in london again by running onto the field or acting stupid or something like that
