| 5 Worst QBs of the Past 30 Years Okay, so we've had a thread discussing the 5 Best NFL Quarterbacks over the last 30 years. So who are the five WORST guys to play during that same era? Can't wait to see some of these lists!

| Re: 5 Worst QBs of the Past 30 Years Depends what you mean by worst. I've seen some terrible QB's in my time but they have got hooked quick enough that they couldn't kill a team, so my list is guys that got a fair crack of the whip but still couldn't produce or consistently let the team down: 1, Ryan Leaf - A total draft bust with a bad attitude. Given plenty of chances by the Chargers and even a 2nd chance in Dallas (maybe they felt he had played baseball somewhere?). 2, Aaron Brooks - A guy with all the tools but just can't handle the mental side of the game. After the Saints finally won a play-off game with him as QB (Jeff Blake was the guy who helped get them to the play-offs), he got 4 years to repeat the trick but helped the team do nothing but go backwards. The play against the Raiders two years ago summed this guy up perfectly. 3, Heath Shuler - Only got drafted so high - along with Dilfer - because it was such a bad year for QB's. Could never grasp the menta l side of the game and would force the ball more than any QB I can remember. 4, Aliki Smith - Bust in the NFL, even managed to be a bust in NFL Europe! 5, Jeff George - An unusual choice I'm sure you'll agree and I was one of those left spellbound by the arm power but the guy just seemed to wreak teams with attitude problems and tease to a different level. He'd get you so far then explode on the sideline or his game would just fall apart. A guy with talent but who wasted it more than guys who just found out they couldn't hack it at pro level.

| Re: 5 Worst QBs of the Past 30 Years Brooks never really had any good years, he had one decent half season when he first played and no one knew much about him. He's a mental head case at QB, a guy who snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. George, the guy just seemed to leave a mess behind every team he was ever with, talent wise, he'd not bad at all. I tried to be different |

Brooks had 4 straight years of throwing over 20 Tds...in 2003 he was 24 tds to 8 ints ( a super good ratio) and an 88 Rating...he also had four straight years of 3,500 yards passing...hardly the stuff of a top 5 worse QB ever... George like was had some good years...head case, yes...top 5 material...hardly... But I do appreciate the effort of trying to be different...if everyone had the same 5 it would be a boring post... along the same vain I offered Chuck Long...was he really a top 5 candiate?...naw....but man, I execpted so much more from him... |

Why I have him in this list is that in a way, it must be worst to have a QB lead your team who you know is capable but you also know is going to mess up when it matters and look the business when the pressure is off. Brooks gets to the play-offs with the Saints, no one knows him from Adam and the Saints had never won a play-off game. No pressure really because he's an unknown on a team that can't win in the play-offs. He wins, then gets destroyed in the next round. Following year, he starts off hot again but at 7-5 and with his team in a strong position, he collapses to four straight defeats. 2002, a great year statistically and a 6-1 start. The season ended 9-7 and missing the play-offs, chance after chance failing to be taken. 2003, a rought start (3-5) looks better because with the play-offs out of sight, Brooks gets hot and the team finishes a deceiving 8-8. 2004, see 2003. 2005, now it's really going wrong and people are seeing through him, with the pressure really on for his starting job Brooks performs classics like the backwards pass to an OL man vs the Raiders and the worst int I have ever seen vs Denver. 2006, I'll give him the Raiders OL stinks, but still, the two fumbles and injury game sums Brooks up. I take all your points on board and all of the above is not Brooks fault on his own (although he's a massive part of it) and pure talent wise, Brooks is not a top 5 worst QB, but for my money, he is a guy who will tease you, show you how good he can be when the pressure is off and then when you need him to be clutch............. |

| Re: 5 Worst QBs of the Past 30 Years You know Gman, I don't do this often but I am going to accept Brooks as a legit case for worst QB...I like the case you have mounted against him...I withdraw my protest of his selection..."Teasing" is a legit reason for being on the list my good man... |

| Jeff George may be the one of the 5 biggest idiots, but he's certainly not the 5 worst. Here's 6 others off the top of my head 1) Rick Mirer 2) Browning Nagel 3) Todd Marinovich 4) Jim Druckenmeiller 5) Andre Ware 6) Cade McNown |

I actually sold a Todd Marinovich on e-bay recently for way over book price, so I really can't hate the boy...though what a waste...the kid could not eat junk food growing up, but got into drugs... Ware was better than Druckenmeiller at least... And Cade McNown had an infamous battle of sort with Tim Couch over Penthouse playmate Heather Kosar I believe (not sure on the name, but i know way too much gossip stuff).... |
