ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that ESPN will hire Bill Parcells and un-hire the Playmaker, Michael Irvin:

An industry source tells us that Bill Parcells has signed on with ESPN, and that Michael Irvin is out. "It's done," said the source. "Rock solid."

Parcells, we're told, will be part of the 78-person Monday night crew, which is dispatched from Bristol on a weekly basis to bring grandeur to (and thus justify) the network's $1.1 billion per year investment in the MNF franchise

Still no official word from The Network, but as I wrote yesterday, Irvin's dismissal couldn't happen soon enough. PFT writes that Irvin is "objectively likeable, but he is gratuitously controversial." I couldn't agree more.

I didn't like Irvin on TV, but he was priceless when he was a guest on the Dan Patrick show.

I could live without Irvin. If Parcells is half as funny as he was in his press conferences, he should be good.

do you guys think that young or jaws is better then irivin, cause i dont. Young is boring and seems to stiff talking and all parcels is going to do is fill jaws time. So why get rid of irvin him and tom jackson work so well togther. I wouldnt mind seeing the nfl pick him up. The nfl network has along way to go with its crew and irvin would be a good for them

Yeah, good point merv. Jaws is uber-annoying. Irvin is no great shakes himself, he's heads and shoulders above Jaws.
