Super Bowl XLI ratings

According to the Associated Press, "Peyton Manning had a lot of witnesses to his soggy super win, with the estimated 93.2 million viewers representing the second most-watched Super Bowl broadcast ever... Only the 1996 Super Bowl between Dallas and Pittsburgh, which had 94.1 million viewers, had a bigger audience, according to Nielsen Media Research on Monday. Behind that 1996 game and the M-A-S-H series finale, Sunday's game was the third most-watched program in television history."

MASH is still up there huh?...and that was when there were a lot less house hold...percentage wise thought, I doubt that it rates second...still those people that had Peyton Manning as a spokesman this year have to be happy...

Yep, you're right, DK... ratings-wise, it was the highest watched since 2000, but in terms of sheer number of people, 3rd highest number of viewers ever. Nothing will ever top MASH ratings-wise, I think. It was a long-running, popular show that went off the air in a time where people didn't have many other viewing options.

Re: Super Bowl XLI ratings

I just watched the MASH finale a few weeks ago on TVLand. What a great show and worthy of its place in television history. This Super Bowl on the other hand failed to live up to its billing, making it more like an episode of BJ and the Bear.

Re: Super Bowl XLI ratings

And I don't think anyone really expected it to be a good game. That's what surprises me about this being the second highest rated superbowl. What aspect do you think made peple want to watch? Peyton? Dungy? Lovie?

Re: Super Bowl XLI ratings

Geez, am I the only one here who enjoyed the game? From the opening kickoff through the entire first half, it was one heck of a hard fought game, and you never really got the impression until late that the Bears were completely out of it -- one good drive out of Grossman, one good series where they pounded Jones down the Colts throat, and it would've been a close one again. Maybe it's just me, but I found it infinitely more entertaining than XL was.

Re: Super Bowl XLI ratings

I enjoyed the game until about 8 minutes left in the 4th, then it got boring. The Bears offense was awful.

But 93 million people...that's amazing. That's nearly a third of the American population.

Re: Super Bowl XLI ratings

It's just a matter of people watching just to see the commercials and Manning finally making it to the big game, so they are watching it for those reasons. I could care less about the commercials, I want to see a football game, but after the 1st half, the game was very boring.
