I thought during the bowl season, Tirico and the analyst from NCAA college football, the former QB (cant think of his name), were great together. They did the Penn State bowl game I believe. Anyway, Tirico is great. Kornheiser, if anything, it will be interesting. He's been a sports writer for many many years so he'll bring something new to the table. Theismann, eh. Not that good, not terrible either.

Yeah, Theismann's really nothing spectacular, but I'm just happy that Monday's will now be Madden-less. It could be worse. Trico, cool. Kornheiser, at least he has a solid knowledge of the sport. And what was wrong with Dennis Miller? Okay, he's a little right-winged for me now, but I dug checking out ESPN the day after the game to see what some of his jokes were referring to. He may not have been a great announcer, but he did study up on the sport and the history of the teams playing.

Did the executives of ESPN have a couple of very dry martinis right before they named this crew? 1) Mike Tirico is fine. 2) I loved Joe Theisman as a player. He was tough and gritty. But as good as he was as a player, he's that bad as an announcer. The guy NEVER shuts up. And he often speaks before he thinks so what he says often makes NO sense. Memo to Joe: TV is a VISUAL medium, please just let the game breathe! 3) Tony Kornheiser: I could see it now: Indianapolis opens up against whomever on MNF: First play: Peyton Manning gets intercepted. Camera flashes to the booth and Kornheiser has a Manning face cut-out on a stick and starts role playing. "The offensive line gave me terrible protection on that, and if you don't believe me, ask my dad." Last edited by ThePundit : 02-10-2006 at 09:19 AM.

But at least he doesn't have dittoheads You speak the truth, sir, but we've suffered through John Madden for years (although he's amusing enough) and I still remember very well Howard Cosell, whom I always thought something of an oddity who just seemed to rub people the wrong way (remember him and Meredith, and him and Ali? *shudder*). Anyhoo, at least we don't have to deal with Rush Limbaugh (?!?) and all the baggage he'd come with.

ESPN too centered on the "E" The selection on Kornheiser illustrates the disturbing trend on ESPN... they are more and more concerned about Entertainment and less and less about pure Sports. All you have to do is watch the endless hours dedicated to poker... entertaining yes (not me, but apparently to some people), but it is not sport. I love Kornheiser, but he doesn't belong on a game broadcast anymore than Dennis Miller did (what a bust that was). Tirico is great, Theisman is OK. Is a three-person team really necessary?

Re: Monday Night Football announcers is it me or is espn broadcast of usually ANY football game ridiculous?..it was bad enough with those 3 on Sunday...now Monday has replaced it...Tirico is fine..forget the other 2...as an example tonights game with Phil and Pitt albeit its a preseason game, bit for a whole series the female announcer bothered Roth about his feelings over and over about the accident and the game went on..finally got back to the game in time for a commercial..even watching the game when Theisman speaks is he watching the game or the mirror..man he uses "I" alot..guess he is still pissed about LT ruining his ""hall of Fame career".. anyway we still have the other 3 stations to watch football..not ESPN((ego satuated persons network))...

Re: Monday Night Football announcers well its been almost half a season..whats the thought of this pathetic announcing crew..i feel bad for Terico..he is the real deal..would like to see him paired off with someone who could enhance our listening and watching pleasure.. and whats with the scoreboard right in the middle bottom..oh on top of the espn display.. also do they ever shut up for a minute and actually watch the game.. hope someone notices who could do something...they should listen to some college announcers..or maybe they think they are too big for that...

Re: Monday Night Football announcers I like Mike Tirico. He's polished and good at what he does. They need to get rid of Joe Theismann. Then again, Howard Cossel was on MNF for years and people didn't like him. I am not a big Kornheiser fan.

Welcome to GoteamsGo thoany. I totally agree with you. Tirico is good. How Joe Theisman keeps his job is beyond me? He never shuts his mouth and often talks before he thinks. And Kornheiser? Jeez. If I hear one more thing about his fantasy team, I'm going to:

| Re: Monday Night Football announcers Does anyone really need at this point to have three guys in a booth to do a football game? An announcer and a color man is all you need. Madden is still the best as far as I am concerned. Thieisman doesn't bother me as much as he does everyone else. The Monday night games have been so bad lately, but that's because of the awful matchups.
