Cool Best Football Movies ever

When I looked at the list of Football movies, I realized how many I haven't seen. But here are my top 5 anwyay:

1) Everybody's All American
2) Heaven Can Wait
3) North Dallas Forty (1979) Nick Nolte
4) Brian’s Song (1970) James Caan, Billy Dee Williams
5) The Longest Yard -1970's

Honorable Mention: All The Right Moves, Black Sunday

Overrated: Jerry MGwire

Horrible: 1)Any Given Sunday 2) Wild Cats ( I love Goldie Hawn but this was just movie was just awful).

Everyone else?

Never saw:

Rudy (1993)
Varsity Blues
The Waterboyr
The Replacements
Remember The Titans
The Program

Re: Best Football Movies ever

Do yourelf a favor, See Rudy. It is my favorite movie, regardless of genre.
"your five feet nuthin', a hundred and nuthin', witout a spec of athletic ability, and you hung in with the best team in all the land for two years... two years.. Son, in this day and age, you dont have to prove nuthin' to nobody except yoursef. Now go on, get to practice."

Brings a tear to my eye every time I think about it.

How about, the one with Gus (the kicking Mule), Unnecessary Roughness (Kathy Ireland, NFL players making cameos) ,Quarterback Princess (Early Helen Hunt), Something for Joey, and Paper Lion?...How's that for a wild mix?

Re: Best Football Movies ever

Just five? Wow... that's tough. Okay, let's see: Remember the Titans, Rudy, Brian's Song (1970), Friday Night Lights and I guess I'll put Unnecessary Roughness at No. 5. So many good ones, though. Some have already been mentioned, but I'd like to add to the list: Hometown Legend, Go Tigers (a documentary) and Knute Rockne: All American.

And still I feel like I'm forgetting some...

Cool Re: Best Football Movies ever

I totally forgot about Friday Night Lights. I saw it but was disappointed. Maybe because my expectation level was so high.

Ah and Paper Lion I saw a long time ago, and I remember thinking could they cast the movie any worse? I mean, Alan Alda in no way resembles any kind of athlete much less a QB. Alda is almost as bad as casting Adam Sandler as a football player.

I actually saw Something for Joey - it was a TV movie as I remember it. The story of John Capeletti and his brother's fight with cancer.

Now see, it was the exact opposite with me. I saw the previews and thought it looked like pure trash. So I skipped it in theaters and eventually wound up renting it on a whim. Much better than I had anticipated.

Re: Best Football Movies ever

Does the football scene in Wedding Crashers qualify it as a football movie? "I think this guy is on steroids, seriously, It's like trying to cover a horse."
Probably go with Friday Night Lights, The Longest Yard (The original, it pisses me off I even have to specify that), Paper Lion, Knute Rockne All American, and Rudy.
Not necessarily in that order.

Re: Best Football Movies ever

Rudy is one of the best movies ever, period
Same with Brian's Song
Longest Yard is a classic
None of the rest are in a class with these three.

4. Friday Night Lights
5. Remember the Titans

honorable mention: Gridiron Gang, The Longest Yard, Any Given Sunday, North Dallas Forty, The Replacements
