NFL Player Cuts

Today marks the first round of "we don't have a CBA" player cuts.

Among those released were RB Mike Anderson, DE Trevor Price and TE Jeb Putzier of the Denver Broncos; RB Stephen Davis, DT Brenson Buckner and KR Rod Smart of the Carolina Panthers; and DT Sam Adams and S Lawyer Milloy of the Buffalo Bills.

Expect many, many more names by the end of the day tomorrow. What a mess!

Re: NFL Player Cuts

Perhaps the biggest potential cut could be Chad Pennington b/c of the money involved.

The Broncos saved about $10 million with all their cuts. Wasn't Davis going to think about retirement? Or is that Priest Holmes?

Looks like the Bills will be rebuilding the defense around a healthy Takeo Spikes.

Next up, the Dolphins, who have released CB Sam Madison, LT Damion McIntosh, S Tebucky Jones and CB Reggie Howard. Plus, by the end of the day, they are expected to cut LB Junior Seau in order to save $2.2 million against the cap.

Interesting, indeed. Mike Anderson and Sam Madison just became some market gams.

Re: NFL Player Cuts

The Raiders, Jets and Chiefs must make some big cuts if the deal is not extended tonight. All three are heavily restricted by the current cap.

Re: NFL Player Cuts

Well, doomsday was been postponed until Sunday, but there were still more cuts and deals yesterday.

The Titans reworked the contracts of Steve McNair, Travis Henry, Billy Volek and others.

The Falcons gave Michael Vick a guaranteed roster bonus to lessen his impact against the cap.

Oakland cut Ted Washington, Ron Stone and Denard Walker - moves that will save them at least $12 million in cap room.

And the Chiefs cut cornerbacks Eric Warfield and Dexter McCleon and linebackers Shawn Barber and Gary Stills.

Re: NFL Player Cuts

The end of the week is going to be another big cutdown day in the NFL. Which veterans will be on the list?

Re: NFL Player Cuts

I was honestly suprised to see Sam Adams cut...maybe that's just because I like the beer. Cuts suck sometimes, but they're a reality of the NFL. Even if you're a big name, the game forgets about you real quick when your not in the spotlight and performing well.

Re: NFL Player Cuts

If Dominick Davis gets the axe, do you think that the New York Jets will pick him up? They could use him more than ever right now with the current status of injured-RB, Curtis Martin and the new arrival of Kevan Barlow.

Re: NFL Player Cuts

Don't forget - the first post in this thread's an old one. Anderson was cut let go by the Broncos before he went to the Ravens, and Adams was released back in March when there was no CBA.

Yikes...missed that...I thought Anderson had been released by the Ravens which made little sense to me.

Re: NFL Player Cuts

First Marc, if I'm the Jets, I'm looking at any and all RBs and WRs that become available anytime soon. But with Davis, I don't know if he's ready to play just yet. He could be as injured as Curtis Martin when it comes to the amount of games expected to be missed.
