| Available NFL QBs There may be quite a few quality NFL quarterbacks changing places for the 2006 season -- possibly more than in any year past.
The New York Daily News is again reporting that the Jets may cut Chad Pennington: "The two sides still have 12 days to work out an agreement - the Jets want him to agree to an $8 million pay cut before a March 3 bonus deadline - but a person close to Pennington seemed resigned yesterday to the likelihood of the quarterback being released in the coming days."
Daunte Culpepper is on the trading block, and reportedly not happy about it [didn't he want to be traded at one point?]. The Titans have declined a $50 million option bonus on Steve McNair, and his days in Tennessee may be numbered unless he renegotiates.
It looks as though the Chargers are going to let Drew Brees test the free agent waters, and Brian Greise has told Tampa Bay that he'd rather be released than take a pay cut to stay. Not to mention that Kerry Collins is all but gone in Oakland.
So who winds up where when its all said and done? I still see Collins to Baltimore and Culpepper to the Raiders. McNair would be a good veteran backup for someone with a young starting QB, maybe to whoever drafts Young? The Jets fans say that cap-wise there's no way the team can afford to cut Pennington, so he may be back or dealt elsewhere for a low-end draft pick. Greise, I dunno. Depends where the other chips fall. |
