First NFL Coach fired

So who will be the first NFL coach to get fired in 2006? I know there's been a lot of talk about Jeff Fisher in Tennessee. Who else are possible candidates. Romeo Crennell in Cleveland? Nick Saban in Miami? Denny Green in Arizona? Could Art Shell be canned even though he's in his first year back as Raiders coach? Are Mike Nolan or Jim Mora in any danger?

Re: First NFL Coach fired

If I was Brian Billick and don't make the playoffs, I'd worry about my job.

Re: First NFL Coach fired

Yeah, I didn't think about Billick because that the Ravens were off to such a great start. But if they start to fall apart...

Cool Re: First NFL Coach fired

If the Chargers don't make the playoffs or make an early exit, Shottenheimer will be gone. There's a lot of tension between him and the GM.

Re: First NFL Coach fired

i would think that would be doubtful

unless an owner had someone specific to replace that coach who was available

most candidates will be coordinators and you cant talk to them until their season is over

Re: First NFL Coach fired

I say that Denny Green will be the first coach fired. Next will be Romeo Crennell. Brian Billick would come shortly after. Then Marty Schottenheimer, and he may not make it into the hall of fame. Jeff Fisher is a maybe. Nick Saban is another maybe. I doubt Mike Nolan is going anywhere, as the team is still young and the offense is starting to show some life. You can credit Norv Turner for saving Mike Nolan's job. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike McCarthy of Green Bay was also on the chopping block. As for Art Shell, as long as the Raiders win 5 games, he is safe.

On Jeff Fisher, he feels he will still be with the Titans next year and they will have a 3-0 start. If they don't start 3-0 next year, then Jeff Fisher should resign. That's just my opinion.

Re: First NFL Coach fired

Certain to be fired this year....Denny Green, Jeff Fisher and Marty Schottenheimer (only if the Chargers don't go deep in the playoffs).

The Chargers could go to the super bowl, unless the Colts come up with some miracle plays. I say that if the Chargers win the Super Bowl, Marty Schottenheimer will retire.

Re: First NFL Coach fired

After the meltdown, I think Denny Green already has his bags packed.

I think they will give Crennel at least 2 more years. He had to completely rebuild the team again, and some key pieces had season ending injuries early.

Re: First NFL Coach fired

I heard Jeff Fisher was assured his job was safe, and that he won't be fired. Thats what Floyd Reese told him. Beside's, im sure Jeff Fisher would only be out of work maybe 24 hr's before a team would pick him up.

He's popular and plenty of organizations would be glad to have him.

welcome to the forum dude

1st, as youre from Nashville id say youre a bit of a Fisher homer lol

but i agree he should be given another year

seems about the best they can hope for is 6-10 this year

i would say give him another year to further bring along Vince Young, but i would have to guess if they dont make the play-offs next year he will be (and should be) gone

Re: First NFL Coach fired

Green is a lock. Marty S. is gone if the Chargers do not get to the Championship game. Jim Mora should be gone. The Falcons are headed in the wrong direction. Crennel has the Browns regressing this year. He has not shown me much. Gibbs may call it quits. Washington has done nothing for him to stay on. If the Giants continue to fall apart, Coughlin may be in trouble. Gruden is a bit iffy, but will get another year. Fisher deserves another year. He has done wonders with Tennessee this year. All the new coaches will get another shot.
