| Re: High School runner gains 658 yards So what, Pundit - should you take him out and hurt his scholarship chances just so the other guys can save a little face? I can't see punishing this kid for his excellence. This 658 yard day may be the difference between him going to Notre Dame or Youngstown State. Maybe it was a little excessive; maybe there were scouts in the crowd and the kid really needed a big day. Who knows?

What if they took the kid out of the game at 350 yards and 35-0, would he get less scholarship offers? Lefty my man, I think you're dead wrong about this one. |

| Re: High School runner gains 658 yards Well the kid carried 29 times...which is a bit much. Still, why was the other team on the same field?...If you have problems with the score, you don't belong in the same conference. I mean what next?...A coaching meeting to pre-determine the score? A call the night before to say, "Hey look I know we play you tomorrow but once you are up by say 20 can you bench the kid?" |

| Re: High School runner gains 658 yards The next time the Yankees thump the Royals or the Devil Rays, I don't want to see apost about the disparity in the payrolls. There is no difference between saying a team kid shouldn't get to run for 658 yards if the other squad cannot stop him, and using the market sixe where a team plays as an encuse- the reasoning behind the first scenario is if the other team is in the same league, they deserve what they get. I am sure any scout watching this kid figured out after about the third touchdown two things- the kid was pretty good and there was no way to truly evaluate him because of the obviously inferior competition. In Connecticut, the high school governing body has instituted a 50 point rule- any coach beating a team by more than 50 is subject to a suspension if he cannot justify his actions. There are always going to be haves and have nots in any sport, just like in life. It is how the haves treat the have nots that define them in the long run.

| Re: High School runner gains 658 yards The story/boxscore of that game is available at *THIS LINK*. It turns out, the team they (Matewan, not Matewall) beat (Burch) has an 0-5 record now. There aren't any stats from the Burch team listed, but the scoring summary is there anyway. They've been outscored 30 - 263 this year according to the MaxPreps website the above link is from. Why you run up the score against a team that hasn't won anyway is beyond me. It's not going to do anything for the kids college prospects when it's against a team with no chance to win from the onset. Especially if there were scouts at the game, which there would be if he's *that* good. In more google searching, another story came up from that night, that he(McCoy) had seven touchdowns and 430 yards with 6:05 left in the game. Bush league at best, to keep him IN the game after that. |
