Plaxico getting rough welcome to jail

Plaxico getting rough welcome to jail
By Mark Miller

After 15 minutes on Rikers Island, it apparently looked like former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress(notes) had already received enough punishment for his gun-wielding infraction, according to the New York Post.

The word is that Burress got a rough welcome when he finally got to jail yesterday. Who knows what he was expecting but prisoners apparently let him have it when he showed up, yelling names at him and informing him in delightful terms of their distaste for the Giants.

One guard noted that Burress was "depressed": "He was trying to keep to himself, but everyone was yelling at him."

Another guard said, "These people got nothing. What else are they gonna do?"

Guess Burress will think twice about carrying a gun into a nightclub next time or at least be able to find it in his pants if he does. Welcome to the next two year of your life, Plax.

I wrote a piece on my website about Burress turning himself in. I really got tired of the guy after he got his huge contract. He became a real jerk, missing practice, faking injuries, not showing up to meetings. In my opinion he cost the Giants a chance to repeat, he was very important to us.

Anyways I kind of feel bad for this idiot, he is gonna get his butt kicked at least once in jail. A pampered athlete who had everything but still couldn't live a life without the hype.

Not that I condone what he did (and I don't condone what he did), he's gettin more time for carryin a gun then physically assaulting someone. How wrong is that..... I mean hell... no one wouldn't even know he had the dang thing if it hadn't gone off.

Re: Plaxico getting rough welcome to jail

I think he got off easy... It's funny how people think that carrying a gun without a permit is no big deal... In NYC no less.
They (the state of NY) had to send him to the clink... Had they not, every thug in NYC would have to get off on gun charges.
He should have gotten 5

Oh and I'm sorry he is depressed because people are teasing him

and if he was home with his kids instead of out running around that night he wouldn't be where he is now.He sure uses his kids for the simpathy vote the day he goes to jail.

I agree after he got his big contract he turned into a big jerk. I read something he said to the effect that his life became first. Too bad about the team I guess.

Every thug in New York City does carry a gun.
Fact is, Plaxico was made an example of. Wrong time, wrong place for him.
And two is more than enough for the charges he faced.
This is a rude awakening for Mr. Buress. Just like it was for Michael Vick. Sometimes you have to hit bottom before you can climb out of the pit.

Exactly, the gun went off. He's lucky he only shot himself.

I think he should have gotten time for that alone. It is a responsibility, not just a right, to carry a gun. NOt to mention the fact that it wasn't registered.

If you carelessly handle a gun, and it discharges, don't you think that is a pretty dangerous thing?

He got exactly what he deserves. He won't serve the two years anyway...

ABSOLUTELY NOT !!!!! Reckless endangerment. How would you feel if he inadvertently shot an innocent bystander that was your child and seriously injured them instead of himself ????

Two years isn't enough.

He got shot in the upper thigh after the gun fell thru the waistband of his pants and hit the floor. So it could have been anybody who got shot from stupidity.I think he's getting what he deserves.

I hope that the guy serves his time, gets out, and then can go out and play again in the NFL. He's a great player that did something stupid, and noone got hurt but himself. Unlike Michael Vick, there was not innocent bystanders in this case.

I wouldn't feel too bad. I'm actually surprised it took you that long to get sick of him. He didn't last long in Pittsburgh for exactly this same kind of behavior. At least when Joey Porter got shot, it wasn't his fault. Not Plexiglass. For whatever reason the millions of dollars were not as important to him as his image. Why he wanted to perpetuate the stereotype of a black guy with a gun, I have no clue, and trying my best not to sound racist, I'm glad one of these rap-thug-wannabes finally shot themselves in the foot...literally.

lol like that. We talk a lot about teams shooting themselves in the foot, this guy actually did it.
But the rap-thug-wannabes are not limited to race. Its about a tough guy with a gun I think.
