Vick and Goodell meet

Michael Vick and Roger Goodell have met, but as of yet no word on the suspension.
Goodell says he hopes to have a decision soon.
Vick begins work with the Humane Society next week.

Re: Vick and Goodell meet

I believe that Vick has served his time and paid his price for the crimes committed. That in and of itself should be reason enough to allow him to return to the football field in some capacity. A four game suspension I believe should suffice as far the league and commissioner are concerned.

I disagree.. I liked the 1-year suspension idea better... seems more, what's the word.... Goodellish

No, I think bresilhac's right. The man served jail time for what he did... I think a lenghty suspension on top of that is just overkill.

Maybe so, but Pac Man didn't go to jail at all and got a longer suspension than somthing that warranted an 18 month sentence? Nope... he should be out 1 year... or more

Don't forget, even though Vick was in jail and couldn't play anyway, he was technically suspended that whole time as well. So he's been suspended from the NFL from 18 months. Either way, it doesn't matter... I don't think he's going to be anything great by the time he comes back anyway.

interesting choice of words Chuck .... considering

ive given this a good deal of thought and have at times been on both sides of the fence ...... but i think i have finally found my proper direction

the nfl is nothing more then a job .... seems there are several times i have heard when players change teams or teams cut players and we are reminded that it is just a business ..... far too often it seems the nfl is seen as something other and im not sure why

so lets look at this as a business decision in the regular job market .... someone in the 'real world' fights dogs and goes to jail for a year or so .... do you expect them to get their job back ???????? .... is Wal-Mart obligated to rehire them ? ...... that absurd and everyone here knows it ........ why do so many here seem so dead set that Vick has to be allowed back in to the nfl ?

Good point, Simon... I totally agree... But the NFL is more than just a business. Do you find people down at the factory, or the office getting paid millions of dollars, getting ad deals, and having millions of people living and dying with every move... no, so because of that, it becomes more than 'just a business'.

I also don't think that Vick's 18 months in jail should count as a suspension... that's like getting a two for one... that's like saying that if you go to jail in the NFL, it's no worse than getting caught at the club one too many times, as far a suspension is concerned...

Then again, Daunte Stallworth should be in Jail for years to come, and he's walking free-- the world's a tragically funny place!
