Derrick Brooks not ready to call it quits

Derrick Brooks still believes he can be productive in the NFL.

Brooks, an 11-time Pro Bowl selection who was cut in a veteran purge by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last February, remains jobless with the start of training camps later this month.
Brooks, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year when Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl after the 2002 season, spent his entire 14-year career with the Buccaneers.
Since 2001, Brooks has averaged at least 115 tackles. While he was slowed by injury and saw a sharp decline in his productivity in 2008 -- he had only 73 tackles -- Brooks' release came after a season in which he made his 11th Pro Bowl.

Brooks, one of only four players voted to 10 consecutive Pro Bowls, has also been a standout off the field. He was the co-winner of the 2000 NFL Man of the Year award, given to the player who combines skill on the field with good work off it.

I am surprised no one has picked this guy up.
Does anyone think that maybe though, the Bucs were a bit hasty in their decision to cut this guy?

Easily a future Hall of Famer...but if Seau can stick it out a few years past his prime, Brooks can too.

Who should pick him up?

Anyone, so long as the price is right. He could definitely still help out a defense--especially a Super Bowl contender.

And think of the veteran presence in the locker room. Who needs veteran presence in the locker room?

Re: Derrick Brooks not ready to call it quits

It would be nice to see brooks and ware on the same defensive squad. I still belive the cowboys major problem is offensive. Romo needs to get his head out of the clouds and a wide reciever needs to step up and be a steady playmaker. Wade phillips should grow a pair as well.

Re: Derrick Brooks not ready to call it quits

Seeing brooks and Ware playing on the same defensive squad would be alot of fun to watch. Derrick is still one of the toughest linebackers in the game and might just give the dallas defense the jolt they have been missing in recent years. Question is....is big Jerry gonna go get 'em? we shall see....

Re: Derrick Brooks not ready to call it quits

really surprised he's still unsigned. The saints,Packers, Pats,Cowboys could all use his services if even as a solid backup and leader.

My prediction: he ends up with New England..I dunno just seems like belicheks kind of move sense he's always loved having an abundance of Veterans on defense and unlike Seau he can probably still be useful on the field as well as off.
