FSU hires specialist to oversee academics

TALLAHASSEE - Florida State, which in the wake of an academic misconduct case has attempted to strengthen and improve the way university employees assist athletes, has hired Bill Shults to be the new director of its Athletics Academic Support Program.

Interim athletics director Bill Proctor announced the hiring.

Shults, who will start in late February, will come to FSU from Florida International, where he oversaw NCAA compliance. He is, however, no stranger to Florida State.

Long overdue. Hopefully he can clean things up and keep them that way.

That is sad, that a school has to hire a director of Athletics Academic Support Program...its a school...it should be a clear cut thing...you offer scholarships to good kids with good grades...ah, heck...what's the use...whatever.

You know, I rather have my Congressman looking into issues with education such as this, than steroid use in MLB

That would be a waste of time and money ro your congressman. They want to hit the pro athletes cause it's their fault how the kids do. Teachin kids before they grow apparently doesn't work.

I think this would be an easy fix. If they become ineligible, they immediately lose their scholarship, and the school would lose it as well. See how long they compete without all their scholarships.
