The talent in the recruiting pipeline from Miami to Tallahassee has trickled more than it has flowed since the man who operated it left Florida State following the 1999 national championship season. But now Chuck Amato is back after seven years as a head coach at North Carolina State. Upon his return to FSU as executive head coach, Amato still found more than a handful of Miami players from Dade County on the squad - seven who signed with the Seminoles - as well as South Florida players such Antone Smith from Pahokee. But of the Dade County players, only Jacky Claude is expected to start against Miami this week. It reflects a four-year period beginning in 2002 when FSU brought in just four scholarship players from Dade County.
