Rivalry weekend gets started early when the 4-0 Florida State women's basketball team hosts the 2-3 Florida Gators Friday, November 24th at 4 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The game will be televised on Sun Sports.
FSU and Florida will meet for the 67th time in a series that dates back to the 1973-74 season. FSU has faced the Gators more than any other team and has played UF at least once every season since FSU began keeping results in 1973-74. According to FSU records, the series stands at 40-26 in UF's favor. FSU's 72-62 victory in Gainesville during the 2004-05 season snapped Florida's 16-game winning streak over the Seminoles and Florida State has now won two of the last three games over the Gators. Last season, FSU and UF met twice in order to get on the home schedule with the football teams.
"We're excited that we've developed a rivalry now," FSU head coach Sue Semrau said. "In order to do that, you have to go out and beat folks and we've been able to do that the last couple of years and so we're really excited about the level this rivalry has reached. Anybody can win this game. I'm just excited about the big weekend we have coming up."
