Roberts goes to Pittsburgh

...for defenceman Noah Welch.
Love the gary roberts. Wish he could've come back to To. Good for him, beefing up the penguins.

Cool Re: Roberts goes to Pittsburgh

He's 40, isn't he? Before they got Roberts, the median age of the Penguins was like 22. And isn't he the guy who kicked his skate up at an Islander's throat during the 2001 series? Or was that someone else?

Re: Roberts goes to Pittsburgh

He made the hit on Jonsson.
Come on Pundit let's bury the hatchet. Want me to keep bugging about the Sundin goal that was but never was?
Roberts is total muscle, he's a workout freak and yeah he's older and he's had injuries but when he was here he was sort of the unofficial captain of the Leafs. we loved him. you can't deny his great leadership. we just couldn't afford to keep him.
He's a great choice for a young team.

The hatchet is buried. I just couldn't remember if he was the guy who kicked Cairns. I just did a quick search. It was Shayne Corson.

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Toronto forward Shayne Corson was suspended by the NHL on Monday for Game 7 of the Maple Leafs' playoff series against the New York Islanders. Corson was suspended for Tuesday night's game in Toronto for kicking New York defenseman Eric Cairns during a fight Sunday night late in Game 6.

"After a thorough review of the game circumstances and the videotape, it is clear that Mr. Corson's kicking action was deliberate and dangerous," league disciplinarian Colin Campbell said Monday. "In reaching this decision, I also took into consideration that there is nothing in playing the game that would justify kicking your opponent, and that Mr. Corson had been fined earlier in the series as a result of a match penalty for a slashing incident in Game 1."

It is the first suspension handed down by the league for the rough and contentious series, that has seen the Islanders lose defenseman Kenny Jonsson and captain Michael Peca to injuries following questionable hits in Game 5 at Toronto.

The Islanders were upset that Gary Roberts was not ejected or suspended for his check from behind that left Jonsson with a concussion. Roberts was given a major penalty, but allowed to return to the game.

New York also wanted Darcy Tucker to be suspended for the low hit on Peca that tore a knee ligament which will keep the forward off the ice into next season. Tucker was not penalized for the check.

Re: Roberts goes to Pittsburgh

Corson was going through some weird stuff near the end of his career in Toronto. he wasn't healthy and he seemed bitterly unhappy. he ended up just walking out on the Leafs.
I wonder what was going through his head when he made the kick.
The one time captain of the habs has disappeared now.
he is Tucker's brother in law.
