| Nieuwendyk retires from nhl.com:
Nieuwendyk won Cups with the first three teams he played for, hoisting Lord Stanley’s hardware in 1989 with Calgary, 10 years later with Dallas in 1999 and finally with the Devils in 2003. He was also on Canada’s Gold Medal team at the Salt Lake Games in 2002.
He (won) the Calder Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year in 1988 when he scored 51 goals and 92 points in his first full season in the league.
His cranky back, they say. he was a great player to watch and I wish the Leafs could have hung onto him longer - or he'd been healthier by the time we got him.
There's just 5 players left that are 40 or older now - Belfour and Roberts, who also happen to be Panthers, Chelios (yes still playing) and mellanby. |
