Same old Eddie Belfour

I remember blueandwhite telling all of us last year how washed up Belfour was. Sure seems like he should have gone ahead and retired, because yesterday he gave up four goals on nine shots before getting pulled in favor of Auld. "I have no excuses. I just have to play better," the 41-year-old Belfour told reporters afterwards. "I thought I had a good warmup, but obviously that didn't carry over to the game." Obviously. How long does it take Florida to cut him loose?

Cool Re: Same old Eddie Belfour

Because so much of a goalies game require fast reflexes, I always wondered how once goalies get into their upper 30's can keep up the same type of performance. It doesn't sound like Belfour is.

The stubbornness of these guys when they should retire and they don't. he has had a stellar career - hang em up when you look good, don't hang out until no one's left at the bar.

Exactly, but some athletes can't seem to leave the game. In football, even a guy like Jerry Rice stayed around way too long. Belfour's 41 years old and he's playing a young man's game. At 41, his range and flexibility have to be a fraction of what they once were. I just don't see how you can hope to be a starting-caliber athlete at this position at that age.

Re: Same old Eddie Belfour

there's an article today in the Star about how Eddie just can't stop because he's competitive, that he loves hockey and he wants to be part of a cup winning team again. he says he loved toronto and the fans were great and he's sorry his injuries put an end to that, but he's very happy to be a Panther and share duties with Auld.
he is really such a likable guy. i would have liked him even better if he could have done some good.

Its the same as a major league slugger whose bat speed slows down...they start guessing and picking their spots...and when they guess wrong they suck
