Move to left for Hanley?

Quote:
Do you see Hanley Ramirez playing left field in the near future? We can get a good defensive free-agent shortstop like Omar Vizquel.
-- Jose G., Miami.

The subject of switching Hanley to the outfield was brought up at the Winter Meetings, and team president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said the commitment is to keep the All-Star at shortstop. Ramirez certainly is athletic enough to play the outfield, but the problem you encounter with star players is trying to move them out of their comfort zone when they aren't ready in their own mind. We've seen him play very well in the field at shortstop, but sometimes he doesn't maintain that focus, and it shows on occasions.
Could Hanley be moved to left?

Hanley is a good player so I hope we keep him, wherever he plays. But the point was brought up that he won't play with his own mind and I agree with that, so we'll see what happens.

Re: Move to left for Hanley?

I hope they don't do that. I am not a Hanley or Marlins fan, however I don't like to see promising careers stepped on too much. He can clearly play solid short stop. One season of left field could ruin that. That Marlins could pick up Adam Dunn or Andrew Jones for a left fielder. There are other options besides this.
