Is Joe Girardi of the Florida Marlins the Major League Baseball Manager of the Year? Fox's Tim McCarver seems to think so. Way too early to be giving that one out. There is no pressure on Girardi at all, and he is also in baseball's worst division. I would like to see the Dodgers make the playoffs and see Grady Little honored, after the screwing he took in Boston because of Pedro.

Willie Randolph is my pick... He has done some incredible bullpen and bench management this year. He doesn't lose his temper often, and is great with the players. Plus, look at the Mets' record.

Girardi will definitely be in the mix, but I would have to take Leyland. He has completely resurrected the Tigers since his arrival.

The award is separate for the AL and NL. Right now, Leyland is a runaway choice in the AL. If the Tigers stumble really badly, Torre could be the man, although the Devil Rays manager, Joe Maddon, has done a very good job, despite their record. Francona in Boston never seems to be mentioned, but he is doing a great job in the toughtest city in baseball to manage. In the NL, Girardi is in much the same boat as Maddon; he will be a popular pick if nobody else stands out. If Houston, Cincy, or Milwaukee can somehow unseat the Cardinals in the Central, then that manager will be a good choice. Both West divisions, AL and NL, are so bad that the winning manager will not receive alot of consideration.

Even as his owner apparently is considering firing him, Marlins skipper Joe Girardi is earning a lot of support as a manager of the year candidate. According to this story, "On this night, 9,316 show up to see the Marlins defeat the Washington Nationals... Florida would go on to sweep the three-game series and win four straight, closing within six games of .500 and staying in the National League wild-card hunt, six games back of St. Louis and Cincinnati... This from a team many predicted would drop 100 or more games... This is why many consider Joe Girardi a leading contender as NL Manager of the Year."

Will Girardi be Manager of the Year? Will he be unemployed after the season? Will he be both?
