Josh Johnson put on DL

Marlins P Josh Johnson left his Wednesday start with what is being called a forearm strain, and he is headed to the 15-day DL. No MRI was taken, and the current plan is for the Marlins to give him about a week's worth of rest and then have him resume throwing. He says he felt fine until the sixth, when his arm started feeling tight. Anyone concerned this injury may be worse than it appears?

Re: Josh Johnson put on DL

More bad news for Johnson. According to Pa. Sportsticker, "The young righthander of the Florida Marlins may require 'Tommy John' surgery following his latest setback, the Miami Herald reported on Saturday... According to the report, Johnson was told to emotionally prepare for the major elbow surgery after the 23-year-old complained of stiffness the day after a three-inning rehab appearance for Class A Jupiter on Wednesday."

He may well be out most of next season as well. Ouch.

Re: Josh Johnson put on DL

This is not as serious as it once was. As long as he rehabs, he should be able to get back to full strength.

Re: Josh Johnson put on DL

Johnson did in fact undergo the surgery this weekend. He will miss the entire 2008 season.
