More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

Once again, rumors of a trade that would send Marlins P Dontrelle Willis to the Mets are beginning to surface. According to the Miami Herald, "It should be no surprise that the first name off the lips of baseball experts when it comes to the subject of forecasting soon-to-be available pitchers happens to be the best pitcher in Marlins history. Even with his slightly inflated 4.80 ERA, Dontrelle Willis is a quality left-handed starting pitcher, which is always a hot baseball commodity. Toss in the fact he almost won the Cy Young Award just two seasons ago and still has a lengthy career in front of him, and Willis could easily be the most sought-after player for contending teams come trade time... And consistent pitching will be a lot harder for the Marlins to achieve if Willis is wearing a Mets uniform in August."

Re: More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

For some reason, I highly doubt that the Marlins are going to trade away their best pitcher... Even though the Marlins have in the past, tended to trade away their best players just to reorganize their team. But right now, Willis is their future along with Cabrera so hopefully, he doesn't get traded away anytime soon.

Well, I went to Yahoo to look up his contract, and surprise, surprise, I got a link right back here to GoTeamsGo.

Dontrelle Willis contract - he signed a one year deal worth $6.45 million in January.

Re: More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

Willis is injured, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from turning. According to the Miami Herald, "Once again, Willis is expected to generate a buzz as the July 31 deadline nears... The New York Mets, as well as New York's Yankees, often are rumored to be interested in obtaining Willis." So just like always, Willis' name has been tied to both New York teams. Anyone think there's any chance things will be different this year and he actually will get dealt to somebody?

Re: More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

According to Yahoo! Sports rumors page, it is "unlikely" that the Marlins will deal Willis this year because he's struggling a bit and his value is down. His ERA is 5th worst among NL qualifiers. Your thoughts?

Re: More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

They will probably keep him and hope he pitches well in the last two months of the season. Then in the off-season they could trade him for something of value.

Re: More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

If they want top value for him they need to trade him now. They need a catcher ,bullpen help and center feilder. The Braves can give them a catcher with Saltalamachia and they have a top class farm system. The Mets would give a lot to have the D-Train as would the Mainers.

Re: More Dontrelle Willis trade rumors

According to Yahoo! Sports, "A Seattle Mariners scout attended Monday's game to watch Florida Marlins left-hander Dontrelle Willis, who allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings in his best start since the All-Star break." Since when did Seattle become a player in the D-Train sweepstakes?

Even if, say, the Mets offered more value? I know the old axiom about never trading to a division rival, but still...

He's not going to Mets there top prospects are pitchers. The Marlins want position players. They want a Catcher and a center fielder. That said the Braves would have the players to make the deal.I could see him going to A-town or Seattle.

You see so certain, yet any time Willis' name comes up, Minaya's isn't far behind. I'm not convinced.
