Girardi NL Manager of the Year

Ex-Florida Marlins skipper Joe Girardi has been named the NL Manager of the Year. According to the AP, "A rookie manager himself, Girardi won easily despite Florida's losing record. He received 18 of 32 first-place votes and totaled 111 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Willie Randolph of the New York Mets was second with eight first-place votes and 81 points."

No question Girardi was the best manager last year. It's a crime Florida fired him.

Yeah, the Marlins shot themselves in the foot with that decision... They'll regret it next year.

I assume with "the Marlins" you mean the upper office.

I don't think Jeffrey Loria will regret anything. He's got an agenda other than providing for the best interest of the players and the fans. Couple that with the way he butchered the Expos, and well... you get the idea.

My question is, who in their right mind would announce in the middle of August a manager's termination (effective at the end of the year) right in the middle the most unlikely playoff run in the entire league? Who would do that?

If Loria doesn't announce to the world that he's giving Joe G the boot, do the Marlins make the playoffs? There's no way to say, but I would imagine that the announcement did have an impact on the players.

I feel for Joe - who handled the situation with a truckload of class. The best of luck to him.

I just wish there were a way we could fire Loria.
