Baseball Musings says so courtesy of ESPN. According to the blog post, the Marlins are about to fire Joe Girardi any day now and hire current Atlanta Braves third base coach Fredi Gonzalez as their next manager. That's from a Marlins source, btw.

So, anyone know anything about Fredi Gonzalez?

From what I've heard over the past few weeks, this is all but a done deal.

According to his bio over at the Braves team website, the 42-year-old Gonzalez "was the Florida Marlins third base coach from 1999 through 2001. Before joining the Marlins major league club, he managed in the minor leagues for nine years, earning league manager of the year honors from Baseball America three times: in 1993 when High Desert finished 82-52 in the regular season and won the Class-A California League championship; in 1994, when Brevard County went 78-61 in the Class-A Florida State League; and in 1997, when he guided Portland (ME) to a 79-63 record and first place in the AA Eastern League."

So is he a good fit to replace Girardi, in your view?

I don't know much about Gonzalez but it's nice to see some new faces in the managerial role.

BTW, MLB.com reports Girardi will be fired tomorrow.

Personally, I would not hire a third-base coach as the team manager.

Giradi will probably end up in Chicago since they split with Baker.

Well the Marlins did name Fredi Gonzalez their new manager earlier today.

And Marc, what's your beef with third base coaches? Willie Randolph was one.
