Anibal Sanchez Throws No Hitter

Anibal Sanchez threw a no hitter versus the Diamondbacks moments ago. Life for the Marlins continues to soar. Are they as hot as the Phillies?

The kid's a rookie, to boot. Phenominal.

Here's what the wire services have to say about the no-no.

AP - Sep 6, 8:53 pm EDT

MIAMI (AP) -- In this year of the rookie, Anibal Sanchez came up with the best performance yet to end the longest no-hit gap in major league history.

Sanchez threw a no-hitter in his 13th career start Wednesday, benefiting from three defensive gems by teammates to lead the Florida Marlins over the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-0.
This is the first no-hitter of the year, right? What a feat for Sanchez!

Post Marlins rookie fires no-hitter

Here's some more about the Sanchez no-hitter

Quote:
TheStar.com - Marlins rookie fires no-hitter
ASSOCIATED PRESS

Sanchez ended the longest no-hit gap in major league history last night, benefiting from three defensive gems by teammates to lead the Florida Marlins over the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-0.

"This is the best moment of my life," the 22-year-old Venezuelan said.

One of four rookies in the Marlins' rotation, Sanchez (7-2) walked four and pitched around an error. He struck out six and threw 103 pitches.

The Marlins poured out of the dugout en masse as the game ended and swarmed around Sanchez, with the jubilant mob collectively hopping as one between the mound and third base.

Sanchez' teammates then hoisted him on their shoulders as he pointed his fingers and thrust his fists to the crowd, where his wife was in the stands.
For the record, the last no-hitter before this one was back in May of 2004 and was thrown by Randy Johnson, then of the Diamondbacks. So it had been a while.

Man, Willis by far - Sanchez IS just a rookie, you know. But check back in a few years.

All I know is that the Red Sox front office needs this kid to blossom, who they traded for Beckett, like a hole in the head. He is 22. 7-2 with a no-hitter and limitless upside, while Beckett is 14-10 with a plus 5.00 ERA and giving up 33 home runs.

I'd still take my chances with Beckett in the long run

Re: Anibal Sanchez Throws No Hitter

I admit that it is a bit risky to invest in rookies. But why don't you get them when their cheap? For a fantasy keeper league that I was in a few years ago, I signed Ortiz when he was with the Twins and suddenly on the Red Sox *poof* he was a magical hitting genie!
