Florida QB Tim Tebow

All eyes on Tebow for Florida's spring game

Jeez, this guy's not even officially out of high school yet and they're already hyping him up to be maybe the QB in Florida Gators history. Sure, his prep stats are damn impressive [9,940 yards passing, 13,050 yards of total offense and 159 touchdowns, all Florida state records, as the article says] but if I'm Urban Meyer, I'm not sure I want a true freshman as my only scholarship backup to Chris Leak. What do you guys think about this kid Tebow's future prospects?

Re: Florida QB Tim Tebow

I think its tough to say concerning a kid that has never done anything at the college level. Just because he put up big HS numbers does not translate into greatness at UF...

Or in any college, for that matter. Just look at Ron Powlus.

Re: Florida QB Tim Tebow

Isnt that the truth. I guess we will need to wait and see what happens; but he looks like he could be a good QB..

Re: Florida QB Tim Tebow

More news on Tebow -- he has enrolled early at the University of Florida and, according to Rotowire.com, "Coach Urban Meyer has already said that Tebow has assured himself of playing a regular role in games this fall. In Florida's spring game, not only did Tebow beat senior Chris Leak's team 24-6, but he also threw for more yards, completed a higher percentage of his passes, and threw the game's only touchdown pass." Think they'll go with the old two-headed quarterback, or will one or the other be the clear starter?

I am a sucker for over-hype high school quarterback legends...someone should come up with an equation for what those type of stats translate to in the college and pro games...a ration of sort...he should have come to a real Florida school like UCF.

Re: Florida QB Tim Tebow

Leak is not a great QB but he does have experience. Would the Gators be better off letting the SR Leak start, and sitting Tebow out for one season?

Naw, might as well find out what they got now...Leaks is okay...but I doubt you can hang a decent Bowl bid on him.

Re: Florida QB Tim Tebow

Think I agree with wvu on this one. I'd redshirt Tebow, give Leak the reigns for this year. No sense wasting a year of Tebow's eligibility most likely sitting behind Leak. That'd give the youngster a chance to learn the intricacies of Meyer's offense and mature another year, and it'd all but guarantee that he'd be the started for the next four years (unless he's a bust or gets hurt, that is).

You got it Lefty! It's not like Leak is a waste; he is a solid QB. Unless Tebow is Joe Montana and he is going to lead the Gators to the title they should redshirt him...

Red shirt?...that's the sissy way out...what started out a nice way to give back an injured player an extra year of play, is an abuse to the system...let the freshmen take their lumps, or bring back a JV squad...no wonder they are all breaking records left and right... ...Play him I say!

Re: Florida QB Tim Tebow

Its not about being a sissy... its about resource management. Why waste a year of either Leak or Tebows career when you redshirt the kid and still have him start for four full years? As the beer commercials say, "Brilliant!"

Because its you who got the "brilliant" nod on the post and not me... ...thus being a bad loser, I had to take the opposite view... ...Your take on it was the right one my man...just had to go down swinging...that's all...

Definitely brilliant. Again, Leak is a good QB. In fact wasn't he pretty hyped up coming out of high school as well??

Yes. Most College Football Magazines still have him as best QB in the conference...
