Southern Cal transfer Emmanuel Moody is officially a Gator now. He's enrolled in classes at Florida and will join the team at practice next week following a physical, UF coach Urban Meyer said.

Meyer was allowed to talk about his new tailback for the first time Thursday after practice.

"We're glad to have him," Meyer said. "He'll be ready to go next year and he's a really good young guy."

Meyer said Moody will split time this fall between the scout team and the varsity. Per NCAA transfer rules, he is ineligible this season.

"We don't want to get him beat up (on the scout team)," Meyer said. "We also want him to learn the offense. He'll do both."

Meyer said he did a great deal of research on Moody during the recent recruitment process. Moody made an official visit to UF a week ago.

"We talked to the strength coach, the trainers and the assistant coaches at the school he was at," Meyer said. "We talked to other people who recruited him and we talked to his high school coach.
