Unhappy Is GTG Suffering From Lack Of Interest?

According to the number of inactive players who are starting on the GTG FF rosters this week it would seem that perhaps a mere 4 or 5 people are actually actively taking part in this Fantasy Football and I really apologize for being negative but that's most disappointing. First Yahoo doesn't let you pick the players you want in the draft by putting most on Auto Pick and now the league is neglected. I guess I should have joined a pay league. I know people are really busy and have lives but I was just hoping for some fun competition. It even seems like posts have been down here and this is the start of the NFL season where posts should be skyrocketing! Aside from the NASCAR fans are most people are moving away from the site? I'm not sure. Don't mean to rock the boat because I love everyone here but I'm concerned about this and I believe it's a problem. Maybe some old timers can confirm or tell me about this situation and the way things have been going down lately. Thanks guys, just voicing my concern.

Re: Is GTG Suffering From Lack Of Interest?

Nothing new... it's called "abandonment."

This happens when you have an "open" and free league. No one has anything at stake so not many really care. Just wait until later in the season where teams are 0-5 or 1-7 and the GMs really stop caring!

I've been in FF for many years and have won my share and lost my share but the best leagues I've been in are money leagues because those are the only ones people care about.

Sad but true...

Yeah just seems like it's a 4 team league and if that's the case then it's not worth anything.

I didnt play FF last year so I cant tell you if this year is abnormal in attention to it or not. I know I have neglected mine something fierce. It only makes sense that people dont spend as much time on something they dont have anything invested in. I'm sorry it isnt working out for you this year but you live and learn I guess.
As for the rest, I havent noticed that posts are down. You can check with our number cruncher LSC if you wish. He kind of follows that. I know I am busy answering posts in the NFL and I see new people all the time.
Sometimes people just get busy and they dont spend so much time on the forum, but come back later.
I dont think you have to worry about GTG. We are still a growing active community.

Re: Is GTG Suffering From Lack Of Interest?

Maybe some are just getting used to it. I know my baseball team was in the basement for the first month, and not showing any signs of life. Once I understood the rules a bit more, I got better.

I'm playing for the title this week!

Give em time to come around. This is my first time with the football as well, but i think I learned a bit about Yahoo during baseball, and hope to improve at a better pace!

Cooler weather is also coming. I haven't been posting anywhere near as much, but as October rolls around, that will pick up as well.

Relax Dusty, you've been upset about this league from jump.

It's just for fun, is it that big a deal if folks don't take it as seriously as you do?

The league I'm not that worried about but this is the best sports site there is with a pleasant group of knowledgeable people (a rarity on the web I assure you!) and I don't want to see it slowly vanish. Perhaps you're right, once the weather gets colder people will spend more time in front of their PCs and post more. I spend the summer in front of my PC more than most because of a broken foot. The more NFL news and views the better since I am the only NFL nut out of my friends. Ok well, off to watch the Eagles and Cowboys showdown!

Re: Is GTG Suffering From Lack Of Interest?

I am in 4 Fantasy Football leagues, two of them money, and still make the efforts. I am still participating in 2 baseball fantasy leagues which should be ending soon. It only takes a few minutes and is really fun. It is funny, I am doing poorly so far in my money leagues but way better in the "just for fun leagues."

I looked at the GTG league today Dusty. I believe a majority of the players, which are quite a few, have made moves. This tells me they are trying at least somewhat to compete??? Maybe I am missing something here? Good topic!

Re: Is GTG Suffering From Lack Of Interest?

Tell you what Dusty, if you want a serious fantasy league, then start one! Do what I did a few years ago and make your intentions known, keep the number of teams to no more than 10 or 12 and start interviewing people who might be interested in joining.

Now, since this would be your league, then it's a safe bet that you should commish it as well. Let me warn you that SAYING you're going to commish is very different than actually DOING it! Take my word for it... I know, I've been commissioner for my fantasy football league for the past 7-8 years and know what? No one's ever quit! Why? Because I asked them in the interview about staying active. If you can't be active, then don't join. And "active" means that you continue to manage your team whether you are 10-2 or 2-10! It's easy to stay involved if your team is kicking tail but the test is when your team is not. Just like if you play in the NFL, you can't just quit!

Re: Is GTG Suffering From Lack Of Interest?

Wow. Cant folks just play for fun? No offense, but interviewing folks, and busting their chops if they don't stay active???

I'd tell ya flat out to stuff it!

You folks take this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much to heart.

I don't think I'll play a second year in this league either.

This is just crazy.

Life is too stressful to take this stuff this much to heart.

I do this stuff for fun. Posting, playing fantasy. When it gets to be like work, I'll have no problem telling folks I'm bowing out.

Not a bad idea! Sounds like you have a league that I would love to join. Though I think Desean Jackson spiking the ball before he crossed the goal line cost me a win this week! Stupid kid!!

It only takes a few minutes unless you are one of the lucky ones blessed with dial-up. Then it takes a lonnnnng time.
