Cool Advice

When all is said and done, you're much better off just starting your best players week after week - no matter who the matchup.

I've tried to chase matchups more than ever this year and it always seems to backfire.

I benched SD defense yesterday, and it goes on and on....

Re: Advice

There's a reason why the saying "always start your studs" exists in fantasy football!

Unless they get injured or benched, stud players will usually remain above many "good" players. The formula is somewhat different when dealing with team defenses because there's no telling sometimes what will happen but good defenses will typically be more consistent in the long run.

I've told this to others and I'll say it again now, drafting good players is only HALF the formula for fantasy football success... The other half is "WDIS" or "Who Do I Start?" You can have the GREATEST draft but you won't win if you don't get WDIS right more often than not!

Take last week. I started the Chiefs over the struggling Broncos instead of the Chargers vs. the Colts and I got killed.

Re: Advice

Sometimes we tend to over-analyze the situation rather than just doing what we feel and know is the right (or better) thing to do at the time! I play golf and if I have a three-foot putt on a relatively flat green, I won't over-burden myself by over-thinking the putt. It's three feet, aim for the back of the cup and make a smooth stroke. That's it! But sometimes, I'll miss that putt because I'm looking at too many things and thinking too darned much! Paralysis by analysis!

Now, this may sound strange but sometimes it's better NOT to have a choice! What I mean is having too many similar players for the position can actually be detrimental to you as the GM! For example, I know GMs who have Drew Brees and Carson Palmer as their QBs and that can be very tough because many will say Palmer is the better of the two, and early on he was but NOW, how do you reconcile who you'd start one week to the next? If you had only one of those guys and a Cleo Lemon or some not-so-good QB as a bye week fill-in, then you've made your life less complicated when deciding who to start as your QB week in and week out! I would rather look to bolster another position on my team than carry those two QBs if I can help it.

I totally agree Nascar Gnome. It's so tempting to get cute. It takes discipline just to stick with your best players, no matter what the matchup.
