The Makings of a Fantasy Championship Team -Draft Review

I ran across my GTG team draft sheet...and decided to review it...here is how the draft went for the 13-3 overall GTG Champs...which proves in certain leagues you do not need the great running backs to win.

1st RD...Peyton Manning -I passed on LT...which got me early season wins but worried me late in the year.

2-Mcghee -best available back, i cut him late in the year because of injuries...and brought in Betts the workhorse in Washington...

3- Terrell Owens - There is no "I " in Fantasy...but there is no "we" either....TO has 12 TDs...enough said.

4- Reggie Wayne - Short on backs I thought he would be a lock in a league that rewards receptions...

5- Reggie Bush - Top backs all gone...but the league credits one point per reception...worth every penny in this league...

6- Andre Johnson - A steal this low...part of the reason I won often early...

7- Chicago Defense...Best available Defense...Hester the punt returner helped...

8- Maroney - too good to cut...too inconsistent to play...rotted on my bench...insurance policy at best...

9- Ben Troupe - Bad pick...I played musical TE the rest of the way...I normally like to take a top flight TE at number 4...bad pick...terrible pick...

10- Michael Vick - A 1,000 yard rusher with 19 TDs passing...a fantasy God...saw action one game on the bye week with Manning on the bench...

11- Lav Cole -A total steal at #11...big year for the Jets...huge year...

12- Donte Stallworth - Never saw action on this team...but a good pick at 12th

13- Jason Elam -I played muscial kickers...with him and Graham, and Longwell...Mile high helps, winter doesn't

14- D'Angelo Williams -Drafted him a year early...next year's 1,000 yard back...But in the 14th round you gamble...

15 - Ron Dayne - ...and you gamble on the 15th...a btter gamble would have been Betts (whom I plucked of waiver)...but Dayne was huge last game...so it wasn't sooo bad a pick...cut early though...

Actually any advice that I'd give would go like this...

1) Cut against the grain and draft opposite of what is being drafted if everyone is set on getting backs early...why fight it...go for best available QB, WR and TE.

2) Gamble in rounds 11-15...

3) Study the point scoring system going into the draft.

4) Don't be affraid to cut players who were gambles...

5) Take players at positions you have if they will be good trade bait later on.

6) Prep for your bye weeks...bye week management is the key to at least 3-4 games a season.

7) When possible lock up your starting back with his sub should something happen...remember Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson.

more later...

Cool Re: The Makings of a Fantasy Championship Team -Draft Review

Congrats, gotham. Now you are truly the champ. I lost both my fantasy playoff games (one finals, one semi's)...And in my pick the points pool, I changed Tennesse to Buffalo, Saints to Giants and Baltimore to PIttsburgh . Good, huh? Now I trail buy 1 game overall. So this past Sunday, was my crankiest sunday in years. I never used to change picks - and certainly not three of them but I'm pulling an A-Rod in this. Just 2 weeks ago, I was up 7 games. Now, I'm down 1.

I consider myself a pretty good FFB and NBA fantasy player. I have my fair share of Championships, but I agree with you on these three points on how to win at fantasy games. Trades are funny because know one wants to give up something for nothing. Even though they are not offering nothing in the first place. Knowing the scoring system is the #1 key to winning imo.

It's a long season bears...may you starting halfback break a leg, and your TE have legal woes all season long...
