Papelbon for Rivera?

I have just been offered an interesting trade from one of the members of my historical baseball league.

On my roster, I have the dominant closer, Jonathan Papelbon who is having a spectacular season for the Red Sox. He is a beneficial pitcher that I could use down the stretch.

My biggest rival in the league has just proposed me a deal that could send me Mariano Rivera and some cash (credits) for my precious closer, Papelbon. In my league, we need credits to acquire players from the free-agency and trading. They give you one credit each week to spend wisely, so I do not spend my extra money purchasing credits.

I am not that active on the market, only if a player I want is dropped by another player. I make a few trades throughout the season, but not that are usually this close. I always accept trades where I feel that I get the edge. So far this season, my technique has been working since I am riding fourth place in an 18-team league.

Re: Papelbon for Rivera?

Don't do it.Papelbon is beginning to show signs of wear. Both have recently blown saves, but without Varitek behind the plate, I do not like Papelbon as much as earlier in the season.

Re: Papelbon for Rivera?

i made this trade in june but i also got atkins, i figured the two would meet in the middle soon enough, and that has happened, pappelbon is going threw a similar point that lidge went threw, the only question left is does papelbon explode or fight on.

Id make the trade, there both goin to get there saves and if its not a dynasty leauge papellbon doesnt have much more upside then rivera for the rest of the season

I think he said he would be trading Papelbon away. I would do it for the exact reason above. Paps is starting to hit that wall a little bit and Rivera is money down the stretch. Depending on the type of league(keeper, etc) and what other closers you have I would make this trade as a jumpstart towards trying to win a championship.

It depends on how bad you want your credits. If you need the credits badly, I might make the deal. But if you don't, stay with Rivera.

Re: Papelbon for Rivera?

I don't have a problem with spending my credits.

Sorry for the confusion here, but I have Jonathan Papelbon.
