Cool Fantasy is all luck

I'm in 2 money leagues:

In my 14 team league, I'm in dead last. ( I had the 3rd pick in the draft)
In my 16 team league, I'm in 1st. (I had the 2nd pick in the draft)

How can I be that smart in one and that stupid in the other? The answer: these leagues are all luck. It comes down to injuries, who happens to have a bad year, etc.....

Isn't it like that in "reality" baseball, too?

I don't think so... I have yet to finish out of the top 3 in the regular season in any baseball league I hsve been in, won all three of my football leagues last year etc, and I have drafted anywhere from 3rd to last.

Baseball comes down to not only managing against injuries, but also adapting a strategy to fit the league point system...and on being anal enough to carry out the daily lineup changes...

Football is all about bi-week management and the strength of opponents your guys are playing against that week.

There is a strong element of luck, but that comes into play more durig the playoffs...

Having time to do all this scouting and remembering to make changes consistantly helps too. That's usually my downfall when I lose.

Yep... I personally do not like games of shear "luck"...I like games where craftiness and intelligence as well as knowledge of sports (coupled with my OCD tendencies) give you a good chance to win.

Re: Fantasy is all luck

In fantasy baseball, I draft teams I like and not what I expect to win.

I hardly even check my leagues, since my teams are usually in the lower slots of the standings. It isn't worth my time.

I agree. I took over a team in a keeper league. It is a H2H points based league. I took the team with Pujols and Rollins and an OK rotation. Turns out it is a pitching heavy league. You get so many more points if the pitcher wins. I lost the first 4 weeks. I have won the last 2 because I got rid of the hitters on my bench and keep updating the starting pitching. I would have won without my offense last week.

I don't like one sided leagues like this. I may drop out after the season unless there are changes.

Wow, nice attitude there, Marc. Actually I'd venture to say you've got it backwards. Your teams are usually near the bottom of the leagues because you hardly ever check them and consider them not worth your time. Like everything, fantasy baseball success comes based on the effort you put into it. If you want to be the best at something, you have to work at it.

Empire ... please don't use that word connected to sports. I'm not a fan of reality shows and to start calling the actual sport of baseball, or any other sport, reality baseball could start an advertising trend. I can just hear Hank William's Jr now singing "Are you ready for some reality football ???"

I've realized that, but there are not any prizes for winning the league.

I need some motivation.

Yep, unless you crunch the math...and some of us are anal enough to, it takes a few weeks to see which way the league is skewed...you have to adjust from there...
