Okay, I put my money where my mouth was. Although my partner drafted because I couldn't make it - he had strict instructions to grab Arroyo and he did in the 8th round (20 team league). He also followed my advice to draft a 2nd baseman and catcher early. With the 15th pick he took Chase Utley on Philly with our 2nd pick - Chris Carpenter. With our 4th pick we got Victor Martinez... With the 3rd pick he got DelGado. He went against my theory of grabbing a 1st baseman later on. But to be fair, with 20 teams who knows what was left? I was never in a draft with that many teams so I'll give him a pass.

Re: Fantasy MLB Baseball Sleepers Forgive me if I've missed something, but I haven't seen anyone mention SP Ervin Santana, Los Angeles Angels as a fantasy sleeper. Last season, he was 12-8 with a 4.65 ERA and 99 Ks in 23 starts, and most experts believe he has a tremendous upside. According to Brandon Funson of Yahoo! Sports, Santana is "a sleeping giant... only Roy Halladay and Jorge Sosa won as many games in fewer starts. And he showed improvement as the year progressed, as his ERA dropped below 4 (3.97) in the second half after sitting at 6.20 in eight starts before the break. He has K-per-inning stuff and can be a big winner on a World Series contender like the Angels." Definitely worth a gamble, don't you think?

Re: Fantasy MLB Baseball Sleepers This is an interesting forum because I have wondered about fantasy baseball drafting. This was my first year of participating in fantasy sports, I did basketball and football. Much to the chagrin of the mojority of people around me, I preferred basketball. Simply for more statistics and it wasn't weighted so heavily on one category (like TD's are in football). But fantasy baseball seems like it would be a mess. There are so many productive players that come out of the woodwork every season that the draft would be heavily marginalized. And the person quickest to the free agent board (The friend in the group without a job) would really capitalize on most of the undiscovered talent. So am I wrong about this? Are people drafting for fantasy baseball aware players that seemingly come out of nowhere? And who is the Mike Vick of fantasy baseball? Does such a person even exist in baseball?

Re: Fantasy MLB Baseball Sleepers The Mike Vick of fantasy baseball would be someone with all the potential in the world that has underperformed on an individual level, yet while half the country thinks he is a bust, the other half thinks he is a phenom and as a result they end up drafting way too early. Maybe I should have explained this when I posed the question.

Re: Fantasy MLB Baseball Sleepers Let me just say that Jose Vidro has been outstanding early in the season. I was able to take him as a back-up after I took Utley early in the draft. Utley has done next to nothing so far but his power numbers should be high at some point. Hopefully, Vidro can stay healthy.

I'm sure in drafts, he was among the 3rd or 4th group of 2b taken. |
