The only starting position still being fought is at running back.
Projected starter Brandon Jackson is being tailed by five other backs, and a couple of them — juniors Jonathan Williams and Norman Whitley — exploded for long touchdowns Monday. Meanwhile, senior Dominique Lindsay is back from multiple injuries and also drew the attention of Holtz.
“The way Dominique is running right now as a senior, he's come back sharp as ever, probably running as well as I've seen him run since he's been here,” Holtz said. “Brandon Jackson is doing a nice job and Giavanni Ruffin is bringing a real physical mindset to it and is showing some flashes. Jon Williams is doing some good things along with Norman Whitley and Darnell Ballard.”
