| Nelson Named Candidate For Naismith and Wooden Awards Durham, N.C. – Senior guard DeMarcus Nelson has been named one of 30 mid-season candidates for both the Naismith award and the John R. Wooden award. Nelson has led the Blue Devils to a 16-1 record on the season and 4-0 mark in ACC play. He leads the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game and is second in rebounding with 5.9 rpg. He is also tied for the team lead with 24 steals and is second with 50 assists. Earlier this season he became the 55th player in Duke history to reach 1,000 points for his career. He is also only the 10th player in school history with over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 150 assists and 100 steals. The Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T is awarded annually to the Men’s college player of the year. The list of 30 candidates will be paired down to four the week of Feb. 18-22. Duke has had seven winners of the Naismith Trophy, more than any other school, since its inception in 1969.
