Duke wins ACC regular-season title

With a 73-66 win over Georgia Tech yesterday, the top-ranked Blue Devils have clinched their 11th regular-season conference championship of the Krzyzewski era. But it wasn't easy.

Redick missed 15 of his first 17 shots, but finally settled down and scored 22 points as Duke improved to 14-0 in the ACC this season. On a side note, if he scores 9 points against Temple on Saturday, Redick breaks Dickie Hemric's 51-year-old conference scoring record of 2,587 points.

That is amazing how there best player can start off so cold but they can still overcome it to win the game. That just shows us that their depth is for real. They will be very hard to beat come March!

Williams is the key

Talk all you want about Redick, but the key to this team is the inside play and how Shelden Williams can keep getting Redick open looks by playing well.

Look at their only loss to Georgetown. Williams' line in that game was 4 pts. on 2-8 shooting with 3 turnovers. Against GT, Williams had 26 pts. and dominated inside, picking up the slack from JJ. McRoberts also played well with 10 pts and 4 offensive boards.

If they go anywhere in the tournament, SW has to play well inside.

That is a fact. Redick is the best player in the NCAA, but he'll need help on the inside for Duke to go all the way.

There have been a lot of amazing players come through Duke, but that Redick is something special.

And really, can you say enough good things about Coach K? That program has a been a model of consistency.

On coach K being a good guy

This is coming from a life-long Duke fan who receives the catalog and has a championship banner hanging in his office, but...

I agree with much of what Gregg Doyel writes here: http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegebas.../story/9216412

K is great, but he rubs me the wrong way sometimes on the court. His style & the way he works the refs just bugs me. I understand fighting for your players, etc. but he's out of hand and the "Duke gets the calls" complaint seems more justified now than ever.

But, as a Duke fan, it's not like I'm complaining that much.

Oh, and after they win this year's title, I'm gonna have to clothespin a "2005" on my lovely banner in my office. Consider that an inside scoop for your office pool from "Devil"intheDetails himself.

I get the same feeling with this team as in 2001 when Battier led them to a title. JJ is this year's Battier-cum-Laettner... the one to lead to the promised land.

Out
