
Duke picked tied for first in ACC preseason poll
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference held its annual Operation Basketball media day at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro on Sunday with the media naming
Kyle Singler the preseason ACC Player of the Year and picking Duke and North Carolina first in the 2009-10 preseason poll.
Singler received 19 votes as preseason player of the year, four more than Maryland's Greivis Vasquez. Singler, a junior forward Medford, Ore., was also selected to the preseason All-ACC team. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2008 and earned second-team all-conference honors last year as the Devils won the ACC Tournament title for the eighth time in the past 11 years and the 17th time overall.
Last season, Singler averaged 16.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He reached double figures in scoring 34 times with 20 or more points in 11 contests. He also had nine double-doubles on the year.
