The New York Times is reporting that Jose Canseco tried to extort money from Tigers OF Magglio Ordonez, promising that he would keep the Detroit player's name out of his latest book if Ordonez invested in a movie project with Canseco. Ordonez did not contact the FBI because he said that he didn't want to press charges, but did notify the Tigers and Major League Baseball. Crazy story, eh?

I don't even know what to think about this. I have been a supporter of his since the book came out because everything he was saying turned out true. If this is for real, his credibility is shot...what little he had.

Canseco is the worst kind of rat, the kind that when he is done reaping the benefits of illegal activity blows the whistle on others when he can no longer benefit from what he was doing. If this was the mob, finding him would make locating Jimmy Hoffa look like child's play. When a guy squeals for money, nothing he says can have any credibility.

Who said the guy is innocent. He could be blackmailing him to keep his name out because he thought the guy would pay. He did come back from a very serious knee injury. After I thought about it, I still believe what Canseco says about these drugs, but he is a scumbag.

Too bad, I like the guy...if he hadn't been so injured prone, he could have really put up impressive stats...the first member of the 40-40 club...

didn't it go south for him when he tired to pitch and hurt himself doing it?

I also think it is a "Revenge" factor with him...I think late in his career that MLB blackliste him and he could not get back on a team...and well, if the league doesn't want him, he is gonna bring it down.

He has pretty much stated that very fact. He said on a radio interview that he was blacklisted and that motivated him to write the book. He said it was going to be more about the innerworkings of baseball and how they treat their players, but he did mention that there would be steroid talk in it.

Yup...I don't think he feels he ever got the love he thinks he deserved...Had he gotten to 500 homers and been given a farewell tour, there would be no book right now...
