The Detroit Tigers have signed veteran 34-year old righty Matt Mantei to a minor league deal. "Mantei hasn't pitched in the big leagues since July 1, 2005, when his comeback attempt with Boston ended at midseason. He made another attempt with the Tigers, going to spring training in 2006, but again couldn't get healthy enough to pitch."

He has had success in the big leagues with the Marlins and Diamondbacks. But his last "good" season was in 2003 with the DBacks.

Good move by the Tigers. He may be healthy enough by now, and it can't be costing them much.
