Cool Sheffield at it again

Gary Sheffield is coming out with a book on April 3 called "Inside Power." He should title it: "Inside Steroids."

Quote:
...Sheffield, no stranger to controversy, disses the Yankees' corporate feel - he even calls the organization "The Corporation" - and says the attitude around the team is that "baseball is your life and everything else is secondary."

In the book, Sheffield calls Joe Torre "an enigma" and says he believes the popular skipper is an "owner's manager" rather than a player's manager."

Sheffield's book, titled "Inside Power," will be released April 3, according to Amazon.com.

"There's a lot of things that go on there that you don't know until you get there," Sheffield told ESPN. "I heard stories about how they are a first-class organization. That they're everything you want in playing for a team. I'm not saying they're not first-class. But I've played for teams that were family-oriented organizations. They made you feel like family. The Yankees are strictly a business. Baseball is your life and everything else is secondary."

Asked what he would tell a fellow player looking for advice on joining the Yanks, Sheffield said, "If winning is everything to you, go there. If it's not, don't. If you can't handle everything else that comes with it, it's not the place for you. There are things that you have to deal with every day, until the next pitch is thrown. So I'd say, if you're not mentally strong, if you don't have a deaf ear to a lot of things, don't go there."
Sheffield was upset when he wasn't in the lineup for Game 3 of the division series against Detroit last October and noted that if he wasn't playing and Alex Rodriguez was hitting eighth in Game 4, then "something is wrong. If something is wrong, who writes the lineup? Joe Torre writes the lineup. I'm not really blaming. I'm telling you factual stuff."

This book will probably make the best-seller list - NOT!
