But he has been using it throughout the post-season. There's clear photographical evidence that Rogers had the same brown stain on his pitching hand in the ALDS, ALCS and now the World Series.

He's been cheating, but when he was "caught" he decided to lie about it. The umpires decided to look the other way and La Russa decided not to make it an issue....and then he lost game 2. I bet you if the series goes to a Game 6, La Russa won't make the same mistake twice.

Personally, I think the media is over-reacting here. All it seems is like a simple little dirt stain or birthmark or some extremely weird (and coincedential) mark on his hand. Seriously, what could it have been? They can check the sewer system and find out if they really want to know. But I don't think it makes a big difference. Without the stain (it may be from the way he holds the ball), he still pitched a decent game of seven scoreless innings. I don't see it as a big problem of the World Series.

I guess you'd have to remove a lot of the "old greats" from the Baseball Hall of Fame if you don't want anyone in there who has greased the ball. Part of the game? Obviously. And yes, STILL. A commonly known factor among most fans.

La Russa didn't challenge Rogers or Leyland for the reason he himself gave, I think. "I'd never take anything away from a pitcher like Rogers."

And don't ya reckon he knows full well that some of his own pitchers are probably doing similar things? Challenge Rogers, and then HIS pitchers will be challenged as well. He knows that would just be bad for the game, period, is what I figure.

More negative publicity about baseball, which it doesn't need right now. And it would be completely pointless, as it wouldn't accomplish anything good, most likely, in the big picture.

After all, in a sport which has pitchers of the past nicknamed things like "Oilcan," I don't think you're gonna find too much support for a position claiming fans are "appalled" at such behavior. It's normal and expected, to some degree, right?

Not saying it isn't technically "cheating," but just remember, the pitchers on teams ANY fan supports are probably guilty of the same thing....

Yeah, I just read that....prolly La Russa decided not to make a fuss because he knows half his pitchers use it too

Welcome to GoTeams Go Victorie. Sure baseball has a lot of problems right now. Like nobody's watching it. Maybe if LaRussa had Rogers searched, it would have created some controversy and somebody would actually watch this series.

I hear what you're saying about him having his pictchers searched. That's the only reason he had not to have Kenny searched.

If LaRussa is so worried about the image of the game, he should look in the mirror because he was the one who started "baseball by computer" with a million pitching changes and 3 hour games...He's helped make the game impossible to watch.
